Selecting The best Bicycle

In the last couple of decades a major shift has been happening in transportation. Before the car was transport of choice but recently however the use of push bikes has become increasingly popular. Perhaps this because the last couple of decades have seen a major shift in the popularity of “living green.” Maybe it is because the cost of gas is just too high. Either way there are now more bikes on the road then ever before. Perhaps you have been giving some thought to getting a bike yourself? If this is the case it is important you know what to look for, the following tips will help you in your quest to find a suitable bike.

Cost is almost always a factor when trying to choose the right bike. Of course there are going to be other things to think about, like where you plan to ride or how long you will be using this bicycle, but the price is still most important.

You can find bicycles that range in price from hundreds of dollars to thousands of dollars. Don’t worry if you do not have this much money available, there are lots of ways to cut down on the amount of money you will spend on your bicycle. Auctions are one of the best places to find a great bike that will be fairly inexpensive and still have everything you need. What kind of handlebars you want on your bike is also a big choice. There are many different types to choose from, each better for specific roles. Common handlebars which simply extend straight out are good for regular cycling, they offer good maneuverability especially when used on hard terrain. They are good for distributing your weight as you ride over a bigger area. For racing however you will want special handlebars, ones which are thinner and are positioned in such a way you can lean over them as you cycle. This is to lower wind resistance and will allow you to go faster. If you aren’t going to be using your bicycle very often, you might simply opt for a handlebar style that feels comfortable and makes it easier to store your bicycle while you aren’t using it.

Another thing to keep in mind is purchasing safety gear. Bicycle helmets are my blog something completely different than they once were. Not only do they look a little better now, they are also safer for you. You should never go for a ride without putting on your helmet first. You'd be surprised at how many lives have been saved from that one simple thing.

It wouldn't hurt to also get some elbow and knee pads, and some wrist and ankle guards if you are going to take your bike off-road. Another piece of safety equipment that you should think about getting are pants clips, especially if you are going to be using your bike as a primary mode of transportation. They work by clipping your pants out of the way so they can't get tangled in the chain or gears.

When you get a bike your main goal should be to find one that physically suits you. Selecting a bike with a good fit for you is of the utmost importance, when using a bike as the main way to get from A to B. Safety is important when on a bike but do not overlook comfort, otherwise those long rides will soon grow tiresome.
